Based on a group of women and their memories of summer holidays, this new multimedia production by Rawhead examines different notions of the word swing. From the popular music played by the big bands of the thirties and forties to the child's swing hanging in the garden, we will see how the different characters view the concept of swing. "Glamorous, electric and raucous: it really swings!"
Contemporary dance based, the choreography is influenced by different
dance styles from contact improvisation,
to partnering work and social dancing, especially Lindy
Hop. Rawhead create racy but elegant duets and groupwork,
incorporating voice and text, which resonate with the personalities
of the performers. Part of the set is a swing which plays an integral
part in the piece, as aerial work is woven
into this production.

The video projections by artist Jo Pickering interact with the live action on stage, supporting the narrative of the piece. Some of the footage is filmed in Italy in collaboration with Italian artists. The sun and characters in the film permeate the whole performance, creating a vivid world for the performers to inhabit. |

The soundtrack is a mixture of an originally composed score by Cyrus Gabrysch and original music from the 1930-60s. When the company is booked at a venue for more than one day, members of the local community are invited to join the performance as extras (the company will provide a one day workshop for participants).
