Rawhead Dance Theatre is an interesting and unique company led by Rosaria Di Giovanni-Walker's strong artistic vision. Since 1995, the company has produced large-scale, high quality work for small-scale venues.
Rawhead's current work is intergenerational with a multicultural cast. Performers' ages range from 9-85 years. The different histories and ideas of each generation imbue the work with a sense of time and depth. The company has a physical and instinctive style that transforms the performance space. Dramatic forms of human relationships are interpreted through text, movement and multi-media (video, sounds and set) transporting the audience into others' lives and worlds.
Movement
is used as an expressive vehicle relevant to the issues being explored. Integrating
different physical skills and dance styles
into the choreography along with contemporary dance,
gives Rawhead its own distinctive style.
The skillset includes:
Contact Improvisation,
Acrobalance,
Corde Lisse & Aerials,
Lindy Hop,
Authentic Jazz,
Disco,
Street Dance (Breaking, Locking and Popping)
The company works together for long
periods before performances, and this shines through in their warmth and interaction
on stage. Rawhead's work appeals to dance and theatre audiences, social dance
fans and everyone who likes to be entertained.
